ken's blog home: 風城的由來

新竹市素有〝風城〝的稱號，然而為什麼新竹多風呢？其實是受到地形的影響。竹塹東南部較高，山脈多作東北西南走向，因此冬季內之東北季風與夏季內的西南季風均可長驅直入,不受台灣中央山脈的障壁作用，再加上新竹市正好位於谷口，風勢更強，因此一年四季氣流旺盛不衰，故得此風城的雅稱。

Xinzhu has another name called "Wind City". It's because of the strong wind here. Why wind here blow so strong? The answer is the landscape. The direction of the mountains nearby are the same with the direction of the season wind. So strong wind can blow into the city without disturbance of the mountains.
